Here it is, we know you’ve been waiting for it!  It’s our first profile of a Schoodie fan!  Viranda Tantula is the next big entertainment business manager in Los Angeles.  We caught up with the stylish business mogul recently and talked about him, his business, and of course, Schoodie.

Name

Viranda Tantula (some folks call me V)

Where are you from? Where do you live?

I grew up on the East Coast, in the metropolitan DC area.  I’ve been living in good ol’ L.A. for the last 12 years (I’ve heard this officially makes me an Angeleno?)

Profession:

Jack-of-all-Trades: Professional Butterer, and Co-Founder of FoundTrack Creative.

FoundTrack is a two-tiered consultancy that 1) develops and manages emerging creative talent (everyone from photographers to DJs to performance artists) and 2) provides creative marketing services to some really rad brands (depending on the client’s needs this could range anywhere from producing a video campaign to planning a full-scale event series).  We’re really blessed to be able to work with and collaborate with a wide variety of forward-thinking partners and clients like The Standard Hotel, Cole Haan, Conde Nast, Puma, Thrillist, and Milagro Tequila.

Our hope and goal is that our company will evolve into a hybrid of like, the Warhol Factory, and what DreamWorks initially intended to be.  Actually, you know what?  I kind of hate to refer to FoundTrack as a company, since we think of it as more of a family.  We even call our clients “flients” = client + friend.

How would you explain your style?

I’m tempted to give one of those wacky answers you’d see in a street fashion column like “Robocop meets James Bond and Bruce Wayne on Casual Friday,” but I’ll just keep it simple: I think style should reflect who you are in a manner that’s at least somewhat functional.  When it comes to styling one’s self, I’d say you can get pretty far by just making sure your clothes fit you well.

What are you currently wearing?

  • Black Schoodie with the narrow scarf and thick hood
  • Leather jacket I recently bought to replace my favorite, go-to black leather jacket from Zara that mysteriously and sadly disappeared recently.
  • Persol Steve Mcqueen shades
  • Some crazy Aloha Rag collaboration shoes from the folks at Converse
  • And last but not least a prototype of this jewelry line my colleague Brian Brown and I are designing which repurpose vintage timepieces into pendants

What’s your favorite way to wear your Schoodie?

Definitely hood up… I mean, what’s the point of having a hood on something if you’re not going wear it, right?  Plus it lets me live out my childhood Jedi/Batman fantasy.  It’s kind of sad that social archetypes (and the Unabomber) have made it pretty suspect to wear a hood in public…  I think the Schoodie will change that.

When did you last wear your Schoodie?

Although some might say I have an avant-garde style, I’m actually going to give you a pretty practical situation.  It came in really handy a little bit ago.  I was headed to New York for a Fashion Week gig with our performance art group, The Bumbys, and heard it was super hot out there so I didn’t pack a jacket.  Anyway, I’ve clearly been in LA too long and forgot about that “rain” thing that happens everywhere else.  It ended up not being a problem because I had my Schoodie handy.  I just threw it over my shirt and BOOM, good to go!

Schoodie at PROJECT and the VMA’s

Two weeks ago, some of the Schoodie crew went to PROJECT trade show in Las Vegas.  Many up-and-coming designers attended the event, and we loved meeting them and being around so much creativity!  And everyone loved the Schoodie (not that we had any doubt that they would).  During the day we were at the the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, and at night experiencing all the Vegas club scene had to offer (while sporting our Schoodies, of course).  As a result of our time in Vegas, Schoodie will soon be available in retailers all over the country.  Look for us in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, New York, Detroit, Bend, Denver, Las Vegas, El Paso, and more.  Keep checking our website for more info!

As soon as we got back to LA, we celebrated the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards at the Legacy Lounge Gifting Suite in the Congo Room.  The VMA Gifting Suite was sponsored by Smart Water, Vitamin Water, Monster Energy, Pirates Booty, and Dolce Touch Vodka.  There we gave celebrities their very own Schoodies.  Among the entertainers who picked up a Schoodie were rapper (and Lil Wayne’s younger bro) Lil Twist, Evanescence lead-singer Amy Lee, Too Short, American Idol contestants, and many more (check our Facebook page for more celebs like Steve Aoki donning the Schoodie).

Even after a really busy couple of weeks, don’t expect us at Schoodie to slow down.  We have already launched new shop experience tabs on our Facebook site, with much more coming your way soon.

Ordering Your Schoodie

Aug 31 2011

When you order something online, you don’t really know what happens between the time you order it and when it arrives on your doorstep.  We at Schoodie want you to know all the time, effort, and passion that go into each and every product we create.

After you select your style and color at Schoodie.com and pay by either Paypal or by credit card, we receive your order and immediately begin processing it.

The scarves are knit and the buttons attached at an off-site location and individually quality-checked when they arrive, while the hoods are constructed in the Schoodie workshop in Downtown Los Angeles.  The two pieces are sewn together meticulously at our workshop, where the tags are also affixed.

Next, we hang the Schoodie on our unique, reusable hanger.  This hanger is specifically designed for the Schoodie and isn’t the usual stuff that you end up throwing out with the packing materials.  The hooded-scarf won’t end up on your closet floor like if it were hung on a standard hanger.

Once it is all neatly packaged, we ship your made-to-order Schoodie right to your house, and you’ll be ready to rock it in multiple styles within a few days.

So there you have it.  Your Schoodie, your way, just for you.

Schoodie at PROJECT Trade Show

Aug 18 2011

On August 22 through 24, Schoodie will be participating in PROJECT in Las Vegas.  PROJECT is a fashion trade show that occurs biannually to support emerging brands.  Says PROJECT president, Andrew Pollard, PROJECT gives brands “a platform in which to showcase their products, their designs, their lifestyle, their attitude.”  This fashion event is somewhat unique in that it focuses on the quality of the products it showcases, and not simply fashion mass production.

So if you are in Las Vegas, come visit PROJECT and see the future of fashion, like clothing from Aryn Glasser, Donna Mizani, and of course, Schoodie, which will be booth #14147.

Welcome to the Official Schoodie Blog

To intro you a bit to Schoodie, the Schoodie is the official name brand for a hooded scarf.  The Schoodie is unique in that it has a knit scarf with a fleece hood, ensuring your comfort and that it falls perfectly on your body at all times.

It took working every day for six months to perfect it—trying out different fabric types, seeing how they fall, wear, feel and last—so you know it’s good.

With the Schoodie, you no longer have to deal with the bulk from a hooded sweatshirt under a jacket or vest.  You can also stay warm by wearing it without a jacket.

Why not wear one on the beach to protect yourself from the cool breeze but not the sun.  Or hey, football season is coming up – create a Schoodie to represent your favorite team with a choice of colors and screen-printing.

As you can tell, this product is the very definition of functional and versatility.  Wear it with the hood up, or hood down; scarf wrapped, hanging or knotted; with a tank or jacket and everything in between.

As of now there are two styles and three standard colors, but more options are coming soon.  And don’t forget, you can customize your very own one-of-a-kind Schoodie.

This blog is not just to talk about the product, though.  Here you will find everything Schoodie.

We will have a street team looking for interesting people to profile who are wearing the Schoodie; so look out for us, you may get to be featured on the site!

In addition, we’ll tell you about all the new and cool things that we’re doing in the offices, including special upcoming Schoodie contests, events, and much more.

We’ll even take you through the process from order through shipping of the hooded scarf, so you know the passion and detail that goes into each and every Schoodie.

So check back here daily for updates about Schoodie.  And don’t forget to grab your very own at schoodie.com or a retail store near you.

Until next time,
The Schoodie Crew

Schoodie = Scarf + Hood [skoo d-ee] The characteristic design includes a scarf that is attached to a hood, otherwise known as a hooded scarf, with buttons at the end to keep the garment around the neck.
